How to arrive to Vernazza on foot

1 hour and 30’ – Mark Trail: red band on white band
The path leaves from the Old Town of Monterosso, to the left of the small beach, in proximity of a restaurant. The first part uphill is extremely steep and climbs along narrow stairways passing through gardens, orchards, vineyards and fields.
Reaching half coast the path continues level enough, with light ops and downs and crosses a series of valleys, with a succession of parts overlooking the sea with parts more in the hinterland.
Then you meet an isolated group of houses. Pass through a small bridge in stone corresponding to another brief slope made by staircases. After every valley the town of Vernazza is more and more visible, with its characteristic tower, and the sight loses itself on the marvellous panorama. In the last part the path passes through numerous olive trees: here begins the real descent, very steep as well, for the greatest part made by steps. At the beginning of Vernazza you pass through the first houses and then you can decide to go down through a dark and narrow stairway leading to the main square, arriving at the side of the Church of Santa Margherita, Vernazza patron saint.
From Corniglia

Approx. 2 hours – Mark Trail: red band on white band
Leave from Corniglia in proximity of the Church of San. Pietro: the path proceeds calm in light descent among the vineyards, going beyond the Rio Groppo.
After the small bridge, you reach after a light slope the hamlet of San Bernardino: here a brief descent begins leading to an equipped standstill point.
Here the road begins to be uphill leading to a point from where you can admire the beach of Guvano below (220 metres above sea level).
Continuing the track you will reach the hamlet of Prevo (220 metres above sea level), from where the final descent towards Vernazza begins, which now can be seen from above: you walk among agaves, Indian fig trees and vineyards until you reach the upper tower of the fortifications of Vernazza from where, crossed two characteristic "carruggi", you reach the characteristic main square overlooking the small marina.
