SEA
The sea is the natural resource that without any doubt better represents the Ligurian territory. Several administrations of the villages of the 5 Terre have been giving since a lot of years a great importance to the territory, creating the National Park of Cinque Terre in 1999. For the same reason, two years before the Protected Marine Area of Cinque Terre was born, witnessing the great affection of the inhabitants for the sea, the flora and the fauna.
The Protected Marine Area covers the whole coastal area from Punta Mesco in Monterosso until Capo Montenero in Riomaggiore.
This area is characterized by the presence of several rare species and for this reason is particularly known by scuba divers, who appreciate the numerous underwater excursions like the “Via dell’Amore” and the “Panettone”, in front of Riomaggiore, or the “Franata di Corniglia”
In the coastal area outside the Protected Marine Area it is possible to do underwater excursions to explore the numerous wreckage.

Among them, we remember the MAC (Monitoraggio dell’ambiente costiero, coastal environment monitoring) and the Sponge-farming project, to renew the preexistent sponge-farming plants.
